".....The driving force behind the recordings, thus, is not precisely the traditional concert experience; Totsiou clearly wants her listeners to engage in a focused, thoughtful, meditative fashion with the sonorities and silences in the music presented here. But these recordings are also most certainly not provided to lull listeners into a meditative state separate from the music. This is not “Music to Meditate With” but, rather, music to meditate on. As Totsiou’s title implies, focused engagement with this music would entail an alternative to meditation. ......"

There are several ways that can lead us towards meditation. Sound is one of them.

The program of Meditation Alternative 1&2 consists of works by international and Greek composers, all written during the 20th and 21st century, except the works by Erik Satie.

All these works, each in its own special manner, led me to further investigate sound and the space that exists before and after.

All of them are works of the psyche, they are not intellectual structures. In some of them the angels of the composer and mine met, and in others I met our demons.

The sequence of the works is not chronological. The intention was a story-telling involving little musical pieces of a greater puzzle.

The recording was made by Vasilia Malteza in February 2020 on a Steinway piano 0-180 at my residence.
